{"id":2365,"date":"2024-08-30T09:23:31","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T09:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=2365"},"modified":"2024-08-31T20:00:41","modified_gmt":"2024-08-31T20:00:41","slug":"2000-physiotherapists-have-left-nigeria-nigeria-society-of-physiotherapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/08\/30\/2000-physiotherapists-have-left-nigeria-nigeria-society-of-physiotherapy\/","title":{"rendered":"2,000 Physiotherapists Have Left Nigeria \u2013 Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-body-top\" class=\"left relative\">\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\" class=\"left relative\">\n<h2>The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy has decried the physiotherapists-to-patient gap, as 2,000 physiotherapists have left Nigeria to practice in other countries.<\/h2>\n<p>The president of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy,\u00a0 Oyinlola Odusanya stated this on Thursday at the 65th Anniversary and Gala Night of the NSP in Abuja.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div id=\"v-naijanews-v1-0\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"_vdo_ads_player_ai_24752\" class=\"vdo_video_unit vdo_floating\">\n<div id=\"vdo_logo_parent\">\n<div id=\"cross_div\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"vdo_ai_cross\" class=\"cross\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Odunsanya blamed the mass exit of physiotherapists on poor working conditions for health professionals in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the 2,000 physiotherapists exit represent over 65 percent of the total physiotherapists in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Odunsanya noted that currently, Nigeria has only 4,000 physiotherapists left to manage a population of 200 million citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Over 65 percent of physiotherapists produced in Nigeria practice abroad. In the last three years, over 2,000 physiotherapists left the shore of our country, with less than 4,000 physiotherapists left in the country to manage over 200 million population.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis development weakened us as a group and in terms of training and reduced the number of experienced physiotherapists to serve our various establishments,<\/em>\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to the government to improve the condition of health workers, particularly, physiotherapists to reduce the migration. He stated that welfare and good working conditions would retain Nigeria\u2019s best brains in the health sector.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Gala Night, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tinuji said the government was committed to funding the health sector while creating a conducive workspace for health workers.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy for its services to the citizens and the nation, adding that the federal government would continue to support its works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy has decried the physiotherapists-to-patient gap, as 2,000 physiotherapists have left Nigeria to practice in other countries.
