large.<\/div>\n<p><\/ins><\/div>\n<p>Loss of social control.<\/p>\n<p>Draining of family resources.<\/p>\n<p>Shrinking from responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Sickness and death.<\/p>\n<p>Economic effects<\/p>\n<p>Loss of potential manpower, low productivity and an unfavourable environment for the investors.<\/p>\n<p>The government spends more money on security settlements of IDPs created as a result of drug abuse instead of using such funds to provide social amenities.<\/p>\n<p>It tarnishes the image of the country.<\/p>\n<p>It encourages corruption among the populace.<\/p>\n<p>It encourages corrupt people to loot public funds.<\/p>\n<p>It causes political unrest in the country.<\/p>\n<p>It is, therefore, important to note that most evil acts of armed robbery, insurgency, crimes, banditry, herdsmen clash and political unrest are caused largely by drug abuse(rs).<\/p>\n<p>Physical effects<\/p>\n<p>Seizures<\/p>\n<p>Stroke<\/p>\n<p>Mental confusion and brain damage<\/p>\n<p>Difficulty in decision-making and lack of attention span.<\/p>\n<p>Liver and lung diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Poor memory.<\/p>\n<p>Aggressive behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>Weakened immune system.<\/p>\n<p>Abnormal heart rates and blood vessel infections from injected drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Nausea and abdominal pain.<\/p>\n<p>Impaired judgment.<\/p>\n<p>Hallucinations<\/p>\n<p>Paranoia<\/p>\n<p>Psychotherapeutic implications Establishments of family education on drug abuse<\/p>\n<p>Establishment of counselling centres for drug campaigns must be intensified among the student population.<\/p>\n<p>Parents should stop the use of drugs indiscriminately in the presence of their children.<\/p>\n<p>Psychologists should assist students in redirecting their attention from drug use to more productive activities in schools and society at large.<\/p>\n<p>Psychologists should create awareness on radio, television and other social media about the danger of drug abuse among Nigerian students and society at large.<\/p>\n<p>Providing more employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The government should provide basic needs to the populace, such as social infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Fighting corruption by the government.<\/p>\n<p>Creating awareness in the community about dangers of drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Provision of alternatives to drug abuse like recreational activities.<\/p>\n<p>Organizing teachings, seminars, workshops, etc to educate students on the dangers of drug abuse<\/p>\n<p>Reduction in the sales of drugs in society.<\/p>\n<p>Establish vigilante groups to monitor the sales of drugs and punish offenders.<\/p>\n<p>Provide homes for homeless youths, orphans, and widows who have problems with substance use<\/p>\n<p>Increase the number of security personnel in NDLEA and provide necessary facilities.<\/p>\n<p>NGOs should support the war against drug abuse in the society.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in religious organizations will go a long way toward reducing drug abuse in society.<\/p>\n<p>Pronouncing stringent punishment for sellers and buyers of all forms of abused substances.<\/p>\n<p>Parents should care for their children\u2019s needs, such as physical, and psychological needs, and with adequate supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Provision of treatment and rehabilitation centres across the country for affected students.<\/p>\n<p>Training of personnel that will care for the affected students, i.e; psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists, social workers, and other mental health-related
