Abia South Senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has accused President Bola Tinubu of showing the Southeast \u201crenewed shege.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abaribe faulted the cabinet reshuffling, which saw the appointment of Bianca Ojukwu as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

Tinubu had removed five ministers while appointing seven and reassigning 10 to new portfolios.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Notably,\u00a0Uju-Ken Ohanenye<\/strong>, the former Minister of Women’s Affairs, was relieved of her duties, and Bianca Ojukwu stepped in as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs so there’s nothing to celebrate there, Abaribe said relieving a Southeast Minister and replacing with another \u201cdoesn\u2019t feel like progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cFor my constituents, nothing has changed,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Abaribe told Arise TV.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t refer to it as \u2018Renewed Hope\u2019 but rather as \u2018Renewed Shege,\u2019\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he remarked, voicing dissatisfaction over what he perceives as a lack of advancement for the Southeast region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Abaribe criticised Tinubu for allegedly breaching the Federal character principle, a constitutional mandate requiring fair representation across Nigeria\u2019s regions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to Abaribe, this reshuffle failed to address Southeast’s concerns of equity and inclusivity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThe president has breached it for the last 18 months,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said. \u201cWe thought these changes would ease the concerns of people from the South East.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Expressing Southeast frustration, he asserted that the region\u2019s desire for\u00a0\u201cfairness and equity\u201d\u00a0<\/em>remains unmet in the constitution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Abaribe insisted,\u00a0\u201cTreat us as you are treating everybody else,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0lamenting that recent appointments appeared only to sustain, not remedy, the status quo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The senator\u2019s criticism highlights ongoing regional discontent, with calls for improved federal representation and a more inclusive approach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
