{"id":2980,"date":"2024-10-29T09:50:15","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T09:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=2980"},"modified":"2024-10-29T09:50:26","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T09:50:26","slug":"electricity-blackout-acf-exposes-conspiracy-to-cripple-northern-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/10\/29\/electricity-blackout-acf-exposes-conspiracy-to-cripple-northern-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Electricity Blackout: ACF Exposes Conspiracy To Cripple Northern Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised concerns that the Federal Government may be deliberately allowing the blackout in the northern part of the country to continue, worsening the region&#8217;s economic struggles.<\/h3>\n<p>ACF claimed the prolonged power outage in northern Nigeria, allegedly due to the vandalism of electricity transmission lines, the<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div id=\"v-naijanews-v1-0\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"_vdo_ads_player_ai_24752\" class=\"vdo_video_unit vdo_floating\">\n<div class=\"vjs-poster\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, ACF urged the Federal Government to urgently declare a state of emergency on the ongoing power outage and the unequal distribution of electricity across the country.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor more than a week, vast parts of the northern states have faced continuous power outages, nearly paralyzing economic and social activities, and leading to a growing frustration among the population<\/em>,\u201d the group stated.<\/p>\n<p>The Forum expressed alarm over statements from the\u00a0 Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) indicating that the outage could persist due to technical and security issues and questioned why the northern region, which generates a significant portion of the country\u2019s electricity, receives such a small allocation in return.<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the disparity, ACF noted that Lagos alone has eight power substations. At the same time, the entire northern region, with over half of Nigeria\u2019s population, has just three\u2014located in Jos, Kaduna, and Kano.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis situation is a clear threat to national security. Public officials\u2019 silence on this issue reflects an unacceptable abdication of their responsibilities<\/em>,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>Rejecting the notion that the crisis stems from past mismanagement, ACF criticized the Federal Government\u2019s reliance on banditry along power lines as an excuse for inaction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s inconceivable that our well-funded security agencies cannot eliminate these bandits and secure power lines,<\/em>\u201d the group argued.<\/p>\n<p>The power crisis has disrupted livelihoods for small and medium businesses, from phone charging stations to food processors, many of whom lack affordable power alternatives. Homes and offices have been left in oppressive conditions, with residents facing sweltering days and pitch-dark nights.<\/p>\n<p>The ACF condemned what it sees as an indifferent response from government leaders and called on the Federal Government to prioritize the crisis as a matter of national security.<\/p>\n<p>It also demanded a fair distribution of power resources, pointing out the irony of the North \u201c<em>being the candle that provides light yet being cast into darkness.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis unjust situation must be rectified immediately in the interest of national stability, fairness, and equity<\/em>,\u201d the ACF asserted, urging northern state governors and National Assembly members to advocate forcefully for action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised concerns that the Federal Government may be deliberately allowing the blackout in the northern part of the country to continue, worsening the region&#8217;s economic struggles.
