International human rights organization, Amnesty International (AI) has condemned the demolition of the communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by Nyesome Wike\u2018s FCT Ministry.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Amnesty International accused President Bola Tinubu\u2019s government of using the guise of insecurity to evict FCT communities while the lands are handed over to private developers.<\/p>\n

The human rights organization noted that residents are being rendered homeless by the FCT administration, amid hunger and economic hardship.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Sunday, AI declared that the ongoing eviction and demolition of houses in communities in and around FCT was illegal and against international and regional human rights laws.<\/p>\n

The statement read, \u201cPresident\u00a0Bola Tinubu government\u2019s use of \u2018insecurity\u2019 as an excuse to forcefully and violently evict FCT communities and hand over the land to private developers is an irony that must not be overlooked, as state-provided security is always non-existent in such communities.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe FCT authorities must halt these attacks on poor communities who are being punished for the government\u2019s urban planning failures. The instability and uncertainty created by forced evictions are making their lives a misery \u2014 during the worst economic crisis in three decades.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThese ruthless forced evictions going on in and around the FCT are just the most recent examples of a practice that has been going on in Nigeria \u2014 whereby the poor are violently rendered homeless and the land handed to the rich and the well-connected.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe FCT administration\u2019s ongoing evictions and demolition of houses is the most degradation of human dignity. Livelihoods are destroyed and children\u2019s education is disrupted. Forced evictions are illegal under international and regional human rights law.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
