\u00a0In a major policy shift, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced free and compulsory education for all children from primary to junior secondary levels, effective from January 2025.<\/h2>\n

The free and compulsory education for all children in the state irrespective of their state of origin.<\/p>\n

The new initiative was unveiled by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu<\/strong>, following a State Executive Council meeting.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Kanu highlighted the government\u2019s commitment to improving educational access and quality for young Abians.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Education is free in Abia State up to the end of Junior Secondary School,”\u00a0<\/em>Kanu stated.\u00a0“There is no reason whatsoever why parents will not send their children to school.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He said that parents and guardians who flouted the new policy would face prosecution.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn line with the Abia Child\u2019s Rights Law 2006, it\u2019s now an offence for parents not to send their children or wards to school because the Government has made education free and compulsory,\u201d Kanu warned.<\/p>\n

The policy, according to him, is pursuant to the quest by the Governor Alex Otti-led administration, to deliver quality and affordable education to the state.<\/p>\n

Also, he said there was no going back on the proposed relocation of the Law Faculty of the Abia State University, Umuahia campus, back to Uturu main campus.<\/p>\n
