The Senator representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has insisted that more consultations need to be done on the Tax Reform Bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu.<\/h3>\n

He submitted that the process for making the bills become laws must not be rushed as the door for correcting mistakes in the bills is now open.<\/p>\n

Ndume submitted to an interview with BBC Hausa service in which he spoke on the latest decision of the state governors on the tax reform bills.<\/p>\n

It would be recalled that after weeks of open confrontation, the 36 state governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors\u2019 Forum (NGF) have made a U-turn and\u00a0expressed support for the proposed tax reform bills currently being deliberated at the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

The forum has also called for an \u201cequitable\u201d sharing formula for Value-Added Tax (VAT) to ensure fair distribution of resources among states.<\/p>\n

However, Ndume, while welcoming the new decision from the governors, said the development is not enough as there are still sections of the bills that require further clarification.<\/p>\n

While calling for wider consultations, he insisted that there is a need to have more understanding of the bills and expressed optimism that the legislators and general public would correct errors before the bills are passed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the governors did is a welcome development, but it is not enough because we still do not have a comprehensive understanding of the bills.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for transparency. The process should not be rushed as this would lead to making mistakes.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe door for correcting the mistakes has been opened now, unlike before when it was closed and the bills left as they were. The work is now with the legislators and the general public,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Ndume submitted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
