{"id":3963,"date":"2025-01-30T08:56:28","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T08:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=3963"},"modified":"2025-01-30T08:56:38","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T08:56:38","slug":"reconvening-during-recess-to-impeach-obasa-is-ilegal-gac-members-slam-lagos-lawmakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2025\/01\/30\/reconvening-during-recess-to-impeach-obasa-is-ilegal-gac-members-slam-lagos-lawmakers\/","title":{"rendered":"Reconvening During Recess To Impeach Obasa Is Ilegal, GAC Members Slam Lagos Lawmakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Chief Muraino Akanbi Taiwo, a member of the Lagos\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">State <\/span>Governance Advisory Council (GAC), has described the decision of lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly to reconvene during recess as illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly reconvened on 13 January 2025 while the House was on recess to impeach the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who was away in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers installed Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container margin-top margin-bottom\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>At the weekend, Obasa addressed his supporters in Lagos and declared that he was still the speaker, as his removal was illegal and did not follow due process.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the GAC have expressed diverse views about Obasa\u2019s removal from office.<\/p>\n<p>However, in a statement released on Monday and signed by him, Taiwo criticised the move, stating that it reflects \u201ctotal disregard and clear disrespect for the leadership of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"related-article\">\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>He acknowledged the division within the GAC leadership regarding the matter but expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he referred to as the party\u2019s de facto leader, to provide a resolution to the ongoing crisis.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container margin-top margin-bottom\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe act of the lawmakers to reconvene during the recess is illegal.
