{"id":4215,"date":"2025-02-14T14:01:46","date_gmt":"2025-02-14T14:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=4215"},"modified":"2025-02-14T14:01:52","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T14:01:52","slug":"afenifere-chieftain-ayo-adebanjo-dies-at-96","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2025\/02\/14\/afenifere-chieftain-ayo-adebanjo-dies-at-96\/","title":{"rendered":"Afenifere Chieftain Ayo Adebanjo Dies at 96"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content article-content\">\n<p>Elder statesman and chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayodele Adebanjo, has died at the age of 96.<\/p>\n<p>Beadysword blog gathered that Adebanjo died on Friday morning at his residence in Lekki, Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>The family confirmed his death in a statement made available to our correspondent on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was jointly signed by his children, namely, Mrs Ayotunde Atteh (nee Ayo-Adebanjo), Mrs. Adeola Azeez (nee Ayo-Adebanjo), and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content article-content\">\n<p>\u201cWith a heart full of gratitude for a selfless life spent in the service of God, the nation and humanity, we announce the passing on of our beloved patriarch, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe died peacefully this morning, Friday, February 14, 2025, at his Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria home at the age of 96,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read-also\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It added, \u201cWe will forever cherish his commitment to fighting for truth, equity, and justice.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container desktop-only margin-top margin-bottom \">\n<div class=\"ad-container-inner\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1652278950647-0\" class=\"\" data-google-query-id=\"CLrA96Spw4sDFZiFUAYdqfoL6Q\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/31989200\/rvp-desktop-1_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cHis belief and struggle for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was total, and this he fought for until he breathed his last breath.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family also disclosed that consultations are ongoing with Adebanjo\u2019s friends, associates, and various interest groups across the country and beyond to finalise plans for a befitting funeral.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, details of the funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, adding that a condolence register has been opened at his residence in Lagos and his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.<\/p>\n<p>The former organising secretary of the Action Group is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, along with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elder statesman and chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayodele Adebanjo, has died at the age of 96.
