Njiko Igbo Forum, an affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has demanded the sum of N100 trillion from the Nigerian Government on the account of injustice suffered by the Igbo people from 1966 till date.<\/p>\n
The group made the demand amid the revelation by former military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd) that contrary to long held belief, the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup.<\/p>\n
IBB said this in his newly released book, \u2018A Journey in Service\u2019.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on Monday, Rev Dr Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, President, Njiko Igbo Forum charged members of the National Assembly from the South-East to send a bill to the National Assembly for an adequate compensation for Ndigbo.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is compensation for the rejection, hate, marginalization, pogrom\/genocide and millions killed during the civil war, economic losses due to destruction of properties, businesses, seized properties, etc; which became as result of false narrative created,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201cIt is now very clear that the Commanders and leaders of the January Coup of 1966 popularly known as the \u2018Igbo coup\u2019, were- Kaduna Nzeogwu \u2013 Delta, Adewale Ademoyega \u2013 Yoruba, Capt. G. Adeleke \u2013 Yoruba, Lt. Fola Oyewole \u2013 Yoruba, Emmanuel Ifeajuna \u2013 Igbo, Lt. Tijani Katsina \u2013 Hausa, Capt. Gibson Jalo \u2013 Niger Delta and Lt. O. Olafemiyan \u2013 Yoruba.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore revelations have emerged, showing that the coup was actually meant to free Chief Obafemi Awolowo from prison and install him as Nigeria\u2019s Prime Minister.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been confirmed by some of those who were directly involved or had firsthand knowledge of the coup\u2019s planning.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn other words, if the coup had gone exactly as planned, Awolowo would have been released and made the Prime Minister.\u201d<\/p>\n
Okechukwu said with the incontrovertible evidences and testimonies, \u201cthe Igbo must be apologised to by Nigeria, try to assuage them by paying them compensation which no matter how much, cannot be equated with millions of lives lost and killed by during the war and their subjugation for 55 years \u2013 from 15th January, 1970 (when the war is said to be ended) and February, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the group also demanded that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu should open up on the 2023 general election.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will not want another memoir written by, maybe Prof Mahmoud the INEC Chairman or President Tinubu when Peter Obi is gone like Chief MKO Abiola is being written and confirmed today as the winner of 1993 presidential election.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeter Obi won the 2023 presidential election and Prof Mahmood should repent and confess.<\/p>\n
\u201cMazi Nnamdi Kanu, who rose up to agitate as a result of the advent of the civil war and its effects on the Igbo, should be released immediately unconditionally.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Igbo, a major partner in the project called Nigeria, have been treated with reckless abandon and ignominy for these 55 long years.<\/p>\n
