{"id":444,"date":"2024-05-02T15:04:10","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T15:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=444"},"modified":"2024-05-02T15:04:13","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T15:04:13","slug":"tinubus-govt-will-show-no-favouritism-in-fighting-corruption-vp-shettima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/05\/02\/tinubus-govt-will-show-no-favouritism-in-fighting-corruption-vp-shettima\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu\u2019s Gov\u2019t Will Show No Favouritism In Fighting Corruption \u2013 VP Shettima"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-body-top\" class=\"left relative\">\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\" class=\"left relative\">\n<h2>Nigeria\u2019s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, declared on Thursday (today) that President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration is resolute in its commitment to combat corruption impartially and without any bias.<\/h2>\n<p>Shettima made this assertion during the Second Edition of The Chronicle Roundtable in Abuja today, where he also highlighted the government\u2019s efforts to address the country\u2019s unemployment issue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div id=\"v-naijanews-v1-0\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"_vdo_ads_player_ai_24752\" class=\"vdo_video_unit vdo_floating\">\n<div id=\"vdo_logo_parent\">\n<div id=\"cross_div\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"vdo_ai_cross\" class=\"cross\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The event primarily aimed to analyse how Tinubu\u2019s administration\u2019s economic and social agenda will bring about a transformative impact on Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Dignitaries present at the gathering included the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris; the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters in the office of the Vice President, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, and the former Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Shamsudeen Usman, among others.<\/p>\n<p>This news platform understands that some prominent members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the President\u2019s political party, are currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for various corruption charges.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent addition to this list is the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Belo who is being prosecuted by the anti-graft agency on 19 counts related to alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds amounting to N80.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that Bello served as the governor of Kogi State from January 27, 2016, to January 27, 2024, when he transferred power to his fellow APC party member, Usman Ododo.<\/p>\n<p>On April 17, 2024, armed EFCC officials surrounded Bello\u2019s residence in Abuja with the intention of arresting him. However, Ododo arrived at the scene and reportedly helped Bello escape.<\/p>\n<p>Following this incident, the EFCC issued a warrant for Bello\u2019s arrest, emphasizing that any interference with their activities would not be tolerated. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, supported this stance.<\/p>\n<p>Fagbemi urged Bello to surrender himself to the authorities.
