Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has voiced his frustration over the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State, stating that if Governor Siminalayi Fubara has committed any impeachable offense, he should face impeachment. Wike, speaking during a live media chat on Wednesday, emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and expressed disappointment in Fubara\u2019s inner circle.<\/p>\n

Wike recalled how Ferdinand Alabaraba, an elder statesman, had strongly supported the rise of an Ijaw governor, only to later be disrespected by the very individual he helped elevate. He used the situation as a cautionary tale, warning that disrespecting those who helped you can lead to a loss of support and trust.<\/p>\n

The FCT Minister criticized the state of Nigerian politics, particularly questioning the legality of a small group of lawmakers enacting laws that could eventually end up in the Supreme Court. He expressed disbelief at the dysfunctionality within the legislative process, singling out the Rivers State High Court as the worst in the country.<\/p>\n

Wike also sparked controversy by addressing the representation of Ijaw people in the Niger Delta, claiming they do not represent the majority in the region. He criticized the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) for attempting to obstruct President Bola Tinubu\u2019s efforts at mediation and labeled the organization as the \u201cworst\u201d he had encountered.<\/p>\n
