The political crisis rocking Rivers State took a fresh turn on Monday as the State House of Assembly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu of gross misconduct.<\/h2>\n

The development is the latest in the series of political crises that have engulfed the oil-rich state.<\/p>\n

The lawmakers, under the leadership of\u00a0Martin Amaewhule<\/strong>, have forwarded the notice to the Governor and his deputy.<\/p>\n

T<\/b>hey added that their action complies with the constitution of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other extant laws, we the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the notice reads in part.<\/p>\n

The development comes a few days after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declared that nothing will happen \u00a0if the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly impeaches Governor Siminalayi Fubara.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike stated that the lawmakers have the constitutional right to remove Fubara if they find him guilty of impeachable offences, including allegations of withholding their salaries for months.<\/p>\n

However, in a discussion with Daily Post, the Chairman of the Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Information and official spokesperson for the House,\u00a0Hon. Enemi George<\/strong>, dismissed claims that the lawmakers have initiated impeachment proceedings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
