A multi-storey structure located on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger axis of Lagos State collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping an unspecified number of people beneath the debris.<\/p>\n
The ill-fated building, said to be under construction, also housed the well-known EqualRight Restaurant.<\/p>\n
According to eyewitness accounts, the collapse occurred at approximately 8 am, catching occupants and passersby by surprise.<\/p>\n
An eyewitness\u00a0 on the grounds of anonymity said the cause of the collapse was yet to be ascertained, but admitted that the building was a \u201cBomb waiting to explode.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone who knows that building should know that it was a bomb waiting to explode. I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I\u2019m there.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, we cannot ascertain how many people are trapped under the rubble, but emergency responders have begun rescue operations\u201d, the source said.<\/p>\n
The source, however, confirmed that operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency have arrived at the location and have begun rescue operations while they await other government agencies.<\/p>\n
