{"id":655,"date":"2024-05-14T19:00:19","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T19:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=655"},"modified":"2024-05-14T19:00:27","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T19:00:27","slug":"minister-petitions-ig-over-marriage-plans-for-100-orphans-in-niger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/05\/14\/minister-petitions-ig-over-marriage-plans-for-100-orphans-in-niger\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister Petitions IG Over Marriage Plans For 100 Orphans In Niger"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and sought a court injunction to stop the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, from marrying off 100 orphaned girls.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker recently announced plans to marry off the orphaned girls, who lost their parents due to banditry attacks in the Mariga Local Government Area as part of his constituency projects on May 24.<\/p>\n<p>He announced that the gesture was \u201caimed at alleviating the suffering of the impoverished\u201d, pledging to pay the dowries for the bridegrooms and procuring materials for the mass marriage.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy-Ohanenye, while briefing newsmen in Abuja described the plans as \u201cunacceptable\u201d emphasising that a full-scale investigation has commenced on the issue.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI want to let the honourable speaker of the house in Niger states know that this is unacceptable by the Federal Minister Of Women Affairs and by the government unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause there is something called the Child\u2019s Rights Act and I said it from the onset, that is no more business as usual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese children must be considered, their future must be considered, the future of the children to come out of their marriage must be considered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container desktop-only margin-top margin-bottom \">\n<div class=\"ad-container-inner\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1652281233069-0\" class=\"\" data-google-query-id=\"CLzy1OvojYYDFcWJUAYdpskFbQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/31989200\/rvp-desktop-2_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cSo I have gone to court.
