The development has severely affected both human and vehicular traffic around the Mokwa area, impacting the movement of petroleum product trucks as well.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\" data-ai=\"WzMsMCwiSW5jb250ZW50IDIgLyBNZ2lkIiwiIiwzXQ==\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1304679\" data-uid=\"16c46\">\n<div id=\"mgw1304679_16c46\">\n<div class=\"mgbox\">\n<div class=\"mgheader\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>While the exact number of fatalities from the\u00a0flood in mokwa Niger, remains disputed, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have reported 153 deaths. However, residents have indicated that the actual toll may be higher.<\/p>\n<p>In discussing the implications of the bridge\u2019s collapse, senior representatives from MRS and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations in Abuja have suggested that the failure of the Mokwa Bridge could lead to a shortage of petroleum products during the upcoming 2025 Eid al-Adha (Sallah) celebrations and the holidays scheduled for June 6th and 9th.<\/p>\n<div id=\"browsi_adWrapper_ai_0_ati_1_rc_0\">\n<div id=\"browsi_adContainer_ai_0_ati_1_rc_0\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1702118\" data-uid=\"079d7\">\n<div id=\"mgw1702118_079d7\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>An official from MRS, who wished to remain unnamed, informed Daily Post that this situation could hinder distribution efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he assured that the price of petrol would stay at \u20a6895 per litre throughout the Sallah holiday.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMost of the petrol trucks are stranded due to the Mokwa Niger State bridge collapse.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHonestly, I foresee fuel scarcity in Abuja and some parts of Northern Nigeria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI hope the government fixes the bridge on time, as our trucks had already made a U-turn, which is more expensive and time-consuming,<\/em>\u201d the MRS official told newsmen on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Another source at NNPCL concurred with the official from MRS, indicating that the situation could result in fuel shortages if a sufficient supply does not arrive from alternative routes such as Port Harcourt and Warri.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that the Dangote refinery, Nigeria\u2019s sole domestic petroleum producer, is located in Lekki, Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest route to Abuja and Northern Nigeria is via the Mokwa Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>In response to this development, the National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association,<strong>\u00a0Billy Gillis-Harry<\/strong>, along with the National Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria,\u00a0<strong>James Tor,<\/strong>\u00a0provided journalists with a markedly different viewpoint.<\/p>\n<p>Gillis-Harry, for his part, assured that members of his association would guarantee a sufficient supply of petrol from alternative sources and routes in Port Harcourt, Rivers, and Delta States to Abuja and throughout Nigeria.<\/p>\n<div id=\"browsi_adWrapper_ai_1_ati_1_rc_0\">\n<div id=\"browsi_adContainer_ai_1_ati_1_rc_0\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He stated that there would be an adequate supply of petrol during this year\u2019s Eid al-Adha.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOne or two companies\u2019 experiences in Abuja will not bring a scarcity of petrol supply in Abuja and Nigeria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur members will work with 11 PLC and Matrix to get supplies from Port Harcourt, Rivers and Delta states.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe only thing is the transportation turnaround time.\u00a0<\/em><em>Our members will do their best to make sure the fuel supply is available across the country during the Sallah.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere should not be scarcity because we have alternatives,<\/em>\u201d Gillis-Harry noted.<\/p>\n<p>However, Tor said the Mokwa Bridge collapse may lead to fuel supply shortages in Abuja and northern states.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the federal government to quickly fix the collapsed bridge or resuscitate an alternative route to avert a possible looming fuel scarcity during the Eid al-Adha.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe federal government needs to be proactive so that the other route is put into use for free vehicular and human movement across the regions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Mokwa Bridge collapse will affect the free flow of supply.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis will cause shortages.
