In a surprising event, notorious bandit leader Ado Aleru has issued a stark warning to Nigerian authorities and society at large. During a recent peace dialogue in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Aleru, who remains wanted by security agencies, challenged the narrative surrounding his group.<\/p>\n

He stated that continued labelling his bandits as \u201cterrorists\u201d would only perpetuate the cycle of violence ravaging communities in the North-West.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as we are still being called terrorists, then do not expect us to stop behaving like terrorists,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0he declared bluntly, shedding light on the complex motivations behind their actions.<\/p>\n

Defending his group’s existence, Aleru explained that many young men had been pushed into banditry due to years of neglect, injustice, and unresolved grievances. He emphasised that their armed resistance was not rooted in hatred but a desperate act of survival.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur parents are not happy with what we are doing, and even we do not truly want this life in our hearts,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0he admitted.\u00a0\u201cWe would prefer a return to the way things were, where mutual respect existed between farmers and herders, and security personnel carried out their duties without bias.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aleru underscored the importance of mutual respect and honest dialogue in fostering peace. He argued that stigmatisation only deepens mistrust and hostility, making reconciliation more difficult. For genuine peace to take hold, he called for sincere efforts at reintegration and understanding, noting that labels only serve to widen the divide.<\/p>\n
