{"id":723,"date":"2024-05-16T08:29:45","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T08:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=723"},"modified":"2024-05-16T08:29:56","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T08:29:56","slug":"labour-abandons-minimum-wage-negotiation-meeting-over-ridiculous-offer-from-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/05\/16\/labour-abandons-minimum-wage-negotiation-meeting-over-ridiculous-offer-from-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour Abandons Minimum Wage Negotiation Meeting Over \u2018Ridiculous Offer\u2019 From Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-body-top\" class=\"left relative\">\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\" class=\"left relative\">\n<h4>The organized labour on Wednesday abandoned a meeting of the tripartite committee on new minimum wage due to the \u2018ridiculous offer\u2019 made by the federal government and the Organized Private Sector (OPS).<\/h4>\n<p>According to sources quoted by Vanguard, the government offered \u20a648,000 while the OPS offered \u20a654,000 as the new minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>The source added that the government did not also provide any data to back up its proposed figures.<\/p>\n<p>After the zonal hearings on the new minimum wage, the organized labour had adopted N615,000 \u00a0as the proposed new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-19\">\n<div class=\"c-ad \">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-4577410-4\" data-google-query-id=\"CLL_tdzfkYYDFRJd9ggduocJWQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18855965\/In_content3_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In protest of the figure proposed by the government and OPS, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) walked out of the meeting which was held virtually.<\/p>\n<p>A labour leader, who was part of the meeting, said the federal government was not serious about giving workers a living wage.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat the government has presented to us is wage reduction.
