The senator representing Borno South senatorial district, Ali Ndume, has advised President Bola Tinubu to surround himself with people willing to tell him the truth.<\/h3>\n

The lawmaker, speaking on Arise Television on Tuesday, opined that having served as kingmaker for years, Tinubu now needs candid counsel as the nation\u2019s leader.<\/p>\n

He insisted that Tinubu has filled his government with \u2018dependents\u2019 who cannot look him in the face, adding that this is a bad omen for the country.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cYou don\u2019t form your government with dependents. And worst of all, is that the president was a kingmaker. So when a kingmaker becomes a king, then there is a problem which he must identify by himself. This is so that he can have people who will stand up to him and tell him the truth. This is now what is lacking in this government.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I still stand on it until there is a change, that this is a government of \u2018Kakistocrats\u2019 and kleptocrats.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ndum has declared that Tinubu would have been out on the streets protesting if another government were in power and the country faced the current challenges.<\/p>\n

Ndume made the statement during an appearance on Arise Television, where he defended his frequent criticisms of the Tinubu administration and vowed to continue speaking truth to power, regardless of political pressure.<\/p>\n

Referencing Tinubu\u2019s activist history, the senator reminded Nigerians that the president himself was once a fierce critic of past administrations, going as far as leading street protests.<\/p>\n

Ndume said, \u201cI\u2019m a son of nobody who became somebody without knowing anybody. Ask Mr President.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not one of his dependents. I\u2019m his ally. Let me tell you one thing that I liked and I copied from Mr. President, if we were to swap positions, and I\u2019m the President, doing the same thing that he\u2019s doing now, he would have been on the street. He has done it before, to protest, even if the government belongs to him, if the wrong thing is happening.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cEven today, somebody from the government is saying, Look, why don\u2019t you come over? I said I will not come over. I\u2019m a Senator. Under a normal democratic setting, the President is supposed to lobby me on issues because he doesn\u2019t have a vote for me. I have voted for him, whether in the Senate, in the general election or anything.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you know, I strongly believe that this power or this position, I believe, Ndume believes that it is God that will give me or will take away from me, not anybody.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s a responsibility on me, and as my religion says, to speak the truth, even if I\u2019m alone, and that\u2019s almost what is happening now in APC.<\/em><\/p>\n
