The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party, putting to rest weeks of internal wrangling and confusion over the party\u2019s leadership structure.<\/h2>\n

The party\u2019s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, announced on Wednesday during a press briefing attended by top party leaders, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.<\/p>\n

Damagum acknowledged that the decision to bring back Anyanwu into the National Working Committee (NWC) was not an easy one but said it was broadly supported by the party\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a difficult decision, but it was accepted by many members of the party led by the organs of the party,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n

The reinstatement comes after prolonged litigation and a leadership tussle over who occupies the office of the PDP National Secretary, a position that has been hotly contested in recent months.<\/p>\n

In a related move, the PDP has also cancelled its planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, initially scheduled for June 30, citing unresolved procedural issues with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n

Instead, Damagum revealed that the party would hold an expanded caucus meeting, which would serve as a stepping stone toward convening a properly constituted NEC meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will have an expanded Caucus. At the next Caucus, we will make a decision leading to a proper NEC,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Damagum stated.<\/p>\n

The Acting Chairman explained that the party was unable to meet INEC\u2019s requirements regarding official notification of the NEC meeting, which typically requires the signatures of both the National Chairman and the National Secretary.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike INEC said, they don\u2019t have our notice. So what we will have on June 30th is an extended Caucus,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he added.<\/p>\n
