Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for the United States’ failure to invite Nigeria to a summit with African leaders.<\/h2>\n

U.S. President Donald Trump will next week host five African leaders in a summit focused on trade, investment,<\/span>\u00a0and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

The African countries are Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Senegal and Liberia.<\/p>\n

Reacting in a statement through his Special Assistant, Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku stated that Tinubu’s failure is complete.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cOn July 9, 2025, President Donald Trump will host five African leaders at the White House to discuss ‘commercial opportunities.\u201d The invited nations are Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNot Nigeria. Not the continent\u2019s most populous nation, the Giant of Africa, which had an economy of $500bn and was among the world\u2019s five fastest growing economies before the cancer called the All Progressives Congress inflicted this blessed nation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Atiku, this exclusion by the Trump administration is neither a diplomatic oversight nor a scheduling error.<\/p>\n

He stated that it is a verdict on Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s chaotic presidency, his divisive chairmanship of ECOWAS, and the complete evaporation of Nigeria\u2019s diplomatic relevance.<\/p>\n

The statement added: \u201cHow do we explain it? Tinubu inherited an ECOWAS of 15 member states and left it gasping for breath with three countries pulling out and 40% of its land mass gone. Once Africa\u2019s diplomatic compass \u2014 the nation that gave weight to regional consensus and global negotiations \u2014 Nigeria has now become an afterthought. Ignored. Sidelined. Stripped of influence. While others are summoned to negotiate Africa\u2019s future, Nigeria is not even in the room.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd while our Foreign Direct Investment has plunged to historic lows, Tinubu\u2019s men lounge in St. Lucia, sipping champagne in the face of national decline. South Africa is negotiating trade frameworks with Washington. Nigeria is invisible.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd let\u2019s now kill the lie that\u2019s been allowed to linger for too long: Gilbert Chagoury is not a Trump ally. He does not hold the keys to the White House. He has no diplomatic leverage in the Trump administration, having been listed as one of the major donors to the Clinton Foundation.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe illusion of his influence has collapsed under the weight of reality. Nigeria wagered its international standing on a mirage \u2014 and lost.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAs chair of ECOWAS, Tinubu did not build bridges; he burnt them. His erratic, self-serving approach fractured regional cooperation, turning Nigeria into a polarising force rather than a rallying point.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom Giant of Africa to diplomatic ghost \u2014 Tinubu has finished the job. He has squandered our legacy, diluted our stature, and silenced our voice on the world stage.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t just an embarrassment. It is a disgrace \u2014 a resounding declaration that Nigeria, under this administration, has lost its way.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cBut let it be known: we will not mourn in silence. We will not be complicit in our own erasure.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, we are glad that the coalition through the ADC is here to rescue Nigeria from these urban bandits. The damage is deep \u2014 but so is our resolve. And the mission to reclaim Nigeria\u2019s honour has already begun.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHistory may not be kind to this government. But history will remember who stood up to end it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
