The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300-level undergraduate at the University of Port Harcourt, in connection with a tragic incident that led to her lover’s death by fire. The arrest follows an alleged act of arson that occurred at a private residence in Choba, Obio\/Akpor Local Government Area.<\/p>\n
The incident, which took place on Sunday, reportedly stemmed from a heated argument between the young couple. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the disagreement was centred around the girl\u2019s pregnancy. During the altercation, Cynthia is accused of setting her lover, 32-year-old Sunny Amadi, ablaze.<\/p>\n
Sunny Amadi sustained severe burns and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), where he later succumbed to his injuries. The tragic news has sent shockwaves through the community and has highlighted the dangerous consequences of domestic conflicts.<\/p>\n
Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued Tuesday in Port Harcourt. She explained that officers from the Choba Division responded promptly after the distress call, visiting both the scene and the hospital where Sunny was being treated.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpon arrival, the victim was found in critical condition and later died while still hospitalised,\u201d Iringe-Koko stated. \u201cThe police have also located Cynthia, who is presently receiving treatment at a hospital for burns she sustained during the incident. She is heavily pregnant with the deceased’s child.\u201d<\/p>\n
Iringe-Koko added that due to her current condition, Cynthia has yet to provide a detailed account of the incident but is expected to do so once she stabilises. The police are actively investigating to establish the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.<\/p>\n
