The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has taken a significant step toward social development by launching a series of community-based Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across Lagos.<\/p>\n

The project commenced with the remarkable renovation of Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, a collaborative effort funded and supported by the Tin Can Island Port Command under the Comptroller Frank Onyekachi, in partnership with the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n

During the commissioning ceremony held on Thursday, Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, emphasised that this initiative aims to improve the educational environment for children in underserved communities. \u201cOur goal is to support education and foster social development through targeted interventions across Nigeria,\u201d he said. \"\" \"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

The renovated school now boasts over 40 classrooms, improved toilet facilities for both teachers and pupils, a food vendor spot, a playground for toddlers and students, as well as a health clinic. The facilities also include a computer room equipped with 10 computers\u2014an upgrade that will soon be increased to 15, with additional computers promised by the CGC himself.\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

Adeniyi reaffirmed that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) seeks not only to be known for revenue collection but also as an organization committed to enhancing the well-being of Nigerians. \u201cWe will continue to support communities, promote sustainable development, and make a positive impact in the lives of the people we serve,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to 2025, the CGC outlined ambitious plans: to reach 50,000 students nationwide with essential school supplies such as bags, uniforms, writing tools, shoes, and raincoats. So far, over 10,000 children have received educational materials in this ongoing outreach.<\/p>\n

In addition to education, the NCS aims to invest in healthcare for 10,000 Nigerians in 2025. \u201cAll our initiatives are in line with President Bola Tinubu\u2019s Renewed Hope Agenda,\u201d Adeniyi stated, praising the local community and government officials for their support. He specifically commended Comptroller Frank Onyeka of the Tin Can Island Command for ensuring the successful delivery of this project, and thanked Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for granting land in Badagry for a new College of Education\u2014an endeavour approved by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n

Adeniyi also shared a personal reflection, recalling his journey from Modakeke High School, highlighting that education is a vital road to success. \u201cMany of us, including prominent figures like the Lagos State Commissioner for Universal Basic Education, went to school in this area,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The event also saw a joint inspection of the newly renovated library and facilities, with Adeniyi expressing optimism about further collaboration with local authorities to support community projects such as the Marakana Stadium, to uncover and nurture young talents.<\/p>\n

In his address, Zone \u2018A\u2019 Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Charles Orbih, called the project the beginning of a transformative mission that leaves lasting legacies in the community. He praised Adeniyi\u2019s leadership in extending the Service\u2019s reach beyond revenue, emphasising how meaningful interventions reinforce the Nigeria Customs Service\u2019s commitment to societal development.<\/p>\n

Mr. Paul Adeboye, a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun, applauded the NCS for taking its CSR responsibilities seriously, encouraging other government agencies to follow suit. Traditional ruler Oba Muhammed Maruf also commended the Service as the first government agency to support primary schools in the area, urging proper maintenance of the renovated facilities.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun LCDA, Fatai Ayoola, expressed gratitude for the support that helps develop future leaders from among the youth, especially through sporting and vocational programs he is championing to keep young people off the streets.<\/p>\n

The Headmistress of Christ Assembly School, Mrs. Easter Ogunfuyi, expressed her gratitude for the renovation, noting the positive impact it will have on teaching and learning. \u201cThis upgrade will enable us to provide a conducive environment for our children,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

As the event concluded, Tin Can Island Command\u2019s Controller, Frank Onyeka, appreciated CGC Adeniyi and pledged the Command\u2019s commitment to the maintenance of the renovated facilities. \u201cThis is just the beginning; we will continue making meaningful contributions to our communities,\u201d Onyeka affirmed.<\/p>\n
