In a firm stance on Saturday, the Obidient Movement condemned Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing his recent remarks as a serious threat to Nigeria\u2019s unity.<\/p>\n
Nana Kazaure, the movement\u2019s Director of Strategic Communications, issued a strong warning, affirming that the movement holds the governor responsible should anything happen to Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate.<\/p>\n
Kazaure\u2019s comments followed Okpebholo\u2019s controversial declaration that Obi should not visit Edo State without prior notice \u2014 a statement that has sparked widespread concern.<\/p>\n
In her official statement, Kazaure criticised the governor\u2019s stance, emphasising that the Nigerian constitution guarantees every citizen the right to movement and residence across the country.<\/p>\n
Her words:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThe Obidient Movement has observed with deep concern a circulating video in which the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, allegedly warns His Excellency Peter Obi never to set foot in Edo State again without informing him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cFor the sake of clarity, Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (amended) grants every Nigerian the right to move freely and reside anywhere within the country. It is therefore both disturbing and unconstitutional for Governor Okpebholo to threaten or attempt to restrict this fundamental right.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Kazaure highlighted that this isn\u2019t an isolated incident. She recalled a previous threat from the Benue State governor against Obi, all during the period when Obi was actively involved in humanitarian efforts across Nigeria, often offering aid to communities neglected by state authorities.<\/p>\n She warned:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWe want Nigerians and the international community to be aware that these threats should not be taken lightly. Any harm that comes to Peter Obi should be attributed, at least in part, to the reckless rhetoric coming from these governors.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n She further asserted that governors, as chief security officers of their states, bear responsibility for their words and actions \u2014 words that can incite unrest or violence.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe call on all Nigerians to speak out against this dangerous trend of political intolerance and reckless incitement.
