<\/p>\nOn Sunday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officiated the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The event, held at the Sports Ground within the Governor\u2019s Office at Lagos House, Ikeja, marked a significant milestone in local governance across the state.<\/p>\n
During his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of delivering inclusive governance, fairness, and high-calibre leadership at the grassroots level. He urged the council leaders to prioritise trust, accountability, and prudent use of the autonomy delegated to local governments for the betterment of their communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not the time for politics,\u201d Sanwo-Olu stated. \u201cGovern with empathy and equity, regardless of whether those you serve voted for you or not. You have been called to service, and I believe wholeheartedly that you will deliver good governance\u2014because you are the closest government to our people.\u201d<\/p>\n
He reassured the newly sworn-in officials that his administration would continue to support them through training and capacity-building initiatives. Emphasising the importance of deliberate and thorough cabinet formation, Sanwo-Olu urged leaders to appoint competent, people-focused individuals who can drive development initiatives effectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour emergence is a call to duty,\u201d he reminded them. \u201cShow Lagosians that they made the right choice. Focus on service delivery and align your efforts with our shared vision of building a greater Lagos.\u201d<\/p>\n
Commissioner Bolaji Robert, representing the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, remarked that the election results reflected the people\u2019s trust in their leaders and underscored a deeper commitment to grassroots democracy.<\/p>\n
On behalf of the new council leaders, Mr. Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the governor for creating a conducive environment and for ongoing support. \u201cWe are grateful to the electorate for entrusting us and to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering backing. We promise to serve diligently and deliver governance that truly works for all.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ceremony was attended by party leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and residents, all witnessing a pivotal moment in Lagos\u2019s local governance history.<\/p>\n
