Speaking during an interview on Trust TV\u2019s Sunday Politics, Lawal claimed that elected officials in the North, including governors, would fail to secure another term unless they join the opposition coalition.<\/p>\n
He lamented that the APC has destroyed and marginalised the North.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhich northern elected official will go to campaign on the platform of the APC this coming election? Nobody. Unless ab initio, you have no plan to win election. I can\u2019t see anywhere,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n Asked if his claim applies to governors seeking re-election, he said, \u201cUnless they join the ADC, they will not win\u2026simply because they belong to a destructive party. A party that woefully failed to perform.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The former SGF said most northern governors must join the ADC if they intend to contest the election. He revealed that the opposition party had already discussed this with some of the governors.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Lawal has accused the government of President Bola Tinubu of having an anti-North agenda.<\/p>\n Lawal asserted while supporting the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) 2023 Presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso\u2019s claims that Tinubu\u2019s administration is marginalising northern Nigeria in infrastructure development.<\/p>\n Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Trust TV, Lawal said there is no visible evidence of federal government projects ongoing in the north.<\/p>\n The former SGF stated that Kwankwaso, who made a similar claim last week, was correct, emphasising that no construction or infrastructure is currently underway in the region.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cEvery Nigerian that has anything to do with the north will know that no infrastructure work is going on at any level.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cNo projects are going on at least they are not visible to the eye. Maybe in their imagination, maybe in the spirit but we don\u2019t see it.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWe don\u2019t see any construction work. We don\u2019t see any infrastructure going on. No federal government project whatsoever.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cKwankwaso, remember, is an engineer too so he, like me, like David Umahi, who\u2019s an engineer too, the way we see things physical things the way we see them differently.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cSo, Kwankwaso knows what he\u2019s talking about. And it doesn\u2019t need to be Kwankwaso to say what he said. Every sensible, honest Nigerian will know that the north is being marginalised.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Lawal said many northerners believe the Tinubu administration is not just ignoring the region but actively rolling back existing gains.<\/p>\n The former SFG questioned the viability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the region ahead of the next elections.<\/p>\n He added,\u00a0\u201cI believe the sense we get as northerners is that if this government can destroy what they inherited, they\u2019ll willingly do it. That\u2019s the sense we have from this government.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI mean, look at it this way which elected official, a northerner, will go into the campaign on the platform of the APC in this coming election?<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cNobody. Except, ab initio, you have no plan to win the election.
