The Powerful Pen Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)<\/strong> kicked off its annual Press Week<\/strong> today in Lagos with a vibrant health walk that combined fitness, camaraderie, and a renewed call for national development through the media.<\/p>\n

With the theme: \u201cThe Role of the Media in National Development,\u201d<\/strong> the event highlighted the Chapel\u2019s commitment to professionalism, unity, and service to the nation.<\/p>\n

    Symbolic Kickoff:<\/strong> The walk began at the Chapter Secretary\u2019s office and concluded at SIFAX<\/strong>, setting the tone for the week-long activities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    MAJAN President Speaks at SIFAX Roundabout<\/h3>\n

    At the SIFAX Roundabout<\/strong>, Mr. Tunde Adewole<\/strong>, a PR officer of SIFAX Group<\/strong>, addressed members of the Powerful Pen Media Chapel of the NUJ<\/strong>, appreciating their contributions toward making the work of industry players more impactful.<\/p>\n

    Comrade Jerry Aguigbo<\/strong>, President of the Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN),<\/strong> commended the Chapel\u2019s initiatives and reiterated the importance of the media in shaping national development.<\/p>\n

    He praised SIFAX<\/strong> as a leading indigenous terminal operator, stressing the value of collaboration between industry stakeholders and the media.<\/p>\n

    Speaking on the challenges journalists face, Aguigbo noted:<\/p>\n

    \u201cJournalists are not well taken care of; they are often neither respected nor supported, which makes it difficult for them to perform their duties effectively. About 80% of journalists in Nigeria are not employed by the government. Private employers should learn to better care for journalists, while the government should also provide adequate support for those under its employment. This would make it easier for journalists in Nigeria to function effectively.\u201d He said<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Industry Voices: SIFAX and NPA<\/h3>\n

    A representative from the Corporate Affairs Department of SIFAX<\/strong> lauded the Chapel\u2019s initiative, noting the critical role of partnerships in Nigeria\u2019s growth story.<\/p>\n

    Delivering the keynote address, Madam Hadiza Usman Shaibu<\/strong>, Principal Manager, Corporate Affairs, Nigerian Ports Authority (Lagos Port Complex)<\/strong>, urged journalists to uphold professionalism in their work. She applauded the Chapel\u2019s road show for promoting peace and order along Apapa Road<\/strong>, describing it as a symbolic act of service to society.<\/p>\n
