{"id":8602,"date":"2025-09-08T16:59:42","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T16:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=8602"},"modified":"2025-09-08T16:59:59","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T16:59:59","slug":"dangote-refinery-pengassan-backs-nupeng-threatens-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2025\/09\/08\/dangote-refinery-pengassan-backs-nupeng-threatens-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Dangote Refinery: PENGASSAN backs NUPENG, threatens strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\" class=\"left relative\">\n<p>The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has declared full solidarity with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.<\/p>\n<p>The industrial dispute between NUPENG and the Dangote Refinery has taken a new turn, with PENGASSAN also issuing a strike threat to shut down the refinery\u2019s operations if the company continues to resist unionisation.<\/p>\n<p>PENGASSAN\u2019s General Secretary, Lumumba Okugbawa, in a statement on Monday, expressed solidarity with NUPENG, describing the denial of workers\u2019 right to unionise at Dangote Refinery as unacceptable and a direct violation of Nigerian labour laws and international conventions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-18\">\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5\" data-google-query-id=\"CIyA9q_RyY8DFZaHgwcdI6krnQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/14001636\/DP_InsidePost_MPU_2_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, we are writing to express our unwavering solidarity with our ally and sister union, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), in their ongoing efforts to secure the rights of tanker drivers who are currently being hired at the Dangote Refinery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to put on record that Dangote Refinery management has been resisting potential members of both PENGASSAN and NUPENG from joining the Association since its inception.
