{"id":8763,"date":"2025-09-18T11:42:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T11:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=8763"},"modified":"2025-09-18T11:42:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T11:42:00","slug":"no-investor-will-invest-in-a-country-where-the-government-direct-the-judiciary-goodluck-jonathan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2025\/09\/18\/no-investor-will-invest-in-a-country-where-the-government-direct-the-judiciary-goodluck-jonathan\/","title":{"rendered":"No investor will invest in a country where the government direct the judiciary,\u00a0 \u2014 Goodluck Jonathan&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-body-top\" class=\"left relative\">\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\" class=\"left relative\">\n<p>Former President\u00a0 Goodluck Jonathan has warned that the independence of the judiciary cannot be negotiated.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Wednesday during the Democracy Dialogue of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation in Accra, Ghana, he asserted that judicial independence is crucial to building a stable and trustworthy business environment.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan insisted that no investor will commit funds to an economy where the judiciary is compromised and subject to political control.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt affects everybody. For example, no businessman can bring his money to invest in a country where the judiciary is compromised, where a government functionary can dictate to judges what judgment they will give. No man brings his money to invest in that economy because they are taking a big risk,<\/em>\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan added that for Nigeria to secure its future, leaders must uphold justice and fairness irrespective of personal or political interests.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf we must build a nation for our children and grandchildren, no matter how painful it is, we must strive to do what is right,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that former president Goodluck Jonathan must follow due process before contesting for the 2027 presidency.<\/p>\n<p>Acknowledging Jonathan\u2019s right to contest, the party asserted that the PDP is an inclusive platform where eligible members are free to aspire to any office in accordance with party guidelines and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Punch on Tuesday, the chairman of the party in Abia State, Abraham Amah, noted that the presidential candidate of the party would be determined through a free and fair election.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, stated that Jonathan is yet to formally approach the party with his manifesto.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201c<em>The attention of the Abia State Chapter of the People\u2019s Democratic Party has been drawn to speculations and inquiries regarding the possible interest of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in contesting the presidential ticket of our great party in the forthcoming general elections. Jonathan has the right to contest.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe presidential candidate of the People\u2019s Democratic Party will be determined through a free, fair, transparent, and democratic presidential convention of the party. It is not a matter of personal preferences, wishful thinking, or unilateral endorsements by any individual member, group, or structure within the party.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs a former President and a respected leader of the party, Dr.Goodluck Jonathan enjoys the constitutional right to contest for the party\u2019s ticket if he so desires.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe PDP remains an open, inclusive platform where every eligible member is free to aspire to any office in accordance with party guidelines and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201c<em>We are aware that some influential interest groups within the PDP strongly believe that Dr. Jonathan is eminently qualified to give the party a strong and competitive representation at the national level.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Amah said these opinions are noted, but said the decision ultimately rests with the delegates at the convention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Abia PDP\u2019s engagements remain open. At this time, former President Jonathan is yet to formally approach the Abia PDP with his policy direction, vision, or manifesto. We believe, however, that it is not too late for him or any other aspirant to engage with our chapter and seek our support.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur doors are open to all aspirants. Until such a time as all aspirants present their plans and the convention decides, the Abia PDP remains neutral. Our doors are open to all intending presidential aspirants to formally present themselves, their manifestos, and their vision for Nigeria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Abia PDP is keenly monitoring political developments across the country and within the party.
