A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, over contempt of court.<\/p>\n
The order came just hours after Professor Yakubu left office as INEC Chairman.<\/p>\n
The case was brought before the court by the political party Action Alliance (AA)<\/strong>. The party accused INEC and its former chairman of failing to comply with a previous judgment delivered by Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi in suit number FHC\/OS\/CS\/194\/2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In that earlier judgment, the court directed INEC to upload the names of the party\u2019s National Chairman, Adekunle Rufai Omoaje<\/strong>, and members of its National Executive Committee (NEC) to the INEC portal. The court also ruled that the elective convention held by the party on October 7, 2023<\/strong>, which produced Omoaje as chairman, was valid and properly monitored by INEC officials.<\/p>\n Although INEC claimed to have complied with the ruling, the Action Alliance disagreed, saying Omoaje\u2019s name was still missing from the INEC website despite the court\u2019s clear orders. While the names of state chairmen and NEC members have been uploaded, Omoaje\u2019s name remains absent \u2014 a situation that the court described as unacceptable.<\/p>\n In a new order dated October 7, 2025<\/strong>, and signed by Court Registrar O.M.
