The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tin Can Island Port Command has announced a major drug bust after intercepting illicit substances worth more than \u20a62.5 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, revealed the development during a press briefing in Lagos on Friday, 14 November 2025. He described the seizure as an important achievement in the ongoing fight against smuggling and criminal activities within Nigeria\u2019s ports.<\/p>\n

According to him, the discovery was made on 6 November during a routine check at a bonded terminal. Officers flagged a 40-foot container\u2014declared to contain two used vehicles and household items\u2014for further examination.<\/p>\n

However, during a joint inspection carried out by Customs Enforcement, the Customs Intelligence Unit, NDLEA, DSS, and the Nigeria Police, officers uncovered illegal drugs hidden inside the shipment.<\/p>\n

The findings included:<\/p>\n

    500 grams of methamphetamine<\/strong> valued at \u20a67.5 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    49 packages of Molly (ecstasy)<\/strong> weighing 105.5 kg<\/strong>, valued at \u20a62.5 billion<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The total value of the narcotics was placed at \u20a62,507,500,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Comptroller Onyeka said the seizure shows how far criminal groups are willing to go to infiltrate the country\u2019s supply chain. He reaffirmed the Command\u2019s commitment to keeping Nigeria\u2019s borders secure.<\/p>\n

    \u201cThis seizure sends a strong and clear message: the Nigeria Customs Service will continue to detect, intercept, and dismantle all forms of illicit trade that threaten national security and the well-being of our citizens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

    He also thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for supporting intelligence and enforcement efforts, and commended partner agencies for their cooperation.<\/p>\n

    As part of inter-agency collaboration, the seized drugs were officially handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).<\/p>\n

    Commander Daniel Onyishi of the NDLEA Tin Can Strategic Command received the items and praised the teamwork among security agencies. He assured that their joint efforts will continue to prevent illicit drugs from passing through the port.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
