The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) PTML Chapter held an environmental awareness campaign to sensitise members, officers, and stakeholders on the need for environmental sustainability.

Organised by the chapter under the leadership of Chairperson Mrs Caroline Anani, the workshop was themed “Green Borders: Advancing Environmental Stewardship for a Carbon-Responsible Future.” The event focused on practical steps toward climate action, especially proper waste management and tree planting.

Speaking at the programme, Comptroller Joe Anani said the initiative reflects the PTML command’s commitment to supporting policies that promote environmentally friendly practices. He noted that the command continues to facilitate the clearance of compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, in line with federal efforts to encourage cleaner transportation.

He also urged everyone to strengthen their environmental stewardship by taking action in everyday life—such as supporting recycling efforts, reducing unnecessary waste, and helping create greener and more habitable spaces through planting trees and growing flowers around work environments.

Mrs Caroline Anani, in her address, called on members to act as environmental ambassadors. She emphasised that meaningful change begins with simple habits like reducing plastic use and conserving energy, and also taking responsibility when waste is carelessly dropped in public spaces. She encouraged community members to embrace tree planting, including in urban areas, using recycled materials where possible.

In a presentation, Deputy Controller Regina Anam highlighted how human activities and industrial emissions are affecting weather patterns and accelerating global warming. She stated that COWA is working toward a target of planting 50,000 trees to help combat desertification and erosion.

To support better waste segregation, the programme ended with the donation of trash bins to the PTML Command.

Overall, the campaign reinforced the message that environmental stewardship is everyone’s responsibility—and that practical action today will shape a healthier future.
