The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has ordered an investigation after online reports alleged extortion by NIS personnel along the Lagos–Seme border corridor.

In a statement issued through the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr Akinsola Akinlabi, in Abuja, Nandap condemned the allegations as unacceptable and contrary to the service’s established standards.

She said the reported acts violate the core values, ethics, and operational guidelines of the NIS. According to her, the service has already taken immediate action by temporarily relieving the Comptrollers overseeing the affected commands of their duties.

Nandap also directed a comprehensive probe to identify all personnel involved and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied without delay.

Reaffirming the NIS commitment to professionalism and transparency, she noted that the service will not tolerate any behaviour capable of damaging public trust or undermining its institutional integrity.

The Comptroller General urged members of the public to report any form of misconduct through the NIS official communication channels, including its social media platforms: X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, under the handle @nigimmigration.
