A teacher from Federal Government College, Anka, Mustapha Yahaya Maru, has been killed by armed bandits even after his family paid a ransom for his release.

Maru was abducted earlier in May while travelling to Anka in Zamfara State. He was among several passengers whose vehicle was intercepted by attackers. After the abduction, the kidnappers reached out to his family and demanded a ransom that was far beyond what they could afford.

Following intense negotiations, the family managed to raise and pay the agreed amount, hoping for his safe return. But tragically, the bandits killed Maru on Tuesday instead of letting him go.

His death has thrown his family and the Maru community into deep mourning. It has also raised more concerns about the worsening insecurity in the region.

Zamfara State and many other parts of the country continue to experience repeated attacks by armed bandits.

In another attack on Monday, May 18, bandits killed a driver, abducted two local government officials, and injured another person along Tashar Lawali Road in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

The attack happened around 11:20 a.m. when heavily armed assailants blocked the road near Jangebe District and opened fire on motorists and commuters.

Sources said the attackers targeted a vehicle carrying local government officials. They abducted two occupants and took them into the bush. The victims were identified as Jamilu Sani, Director of Planning in Talata Mafara, and Muslimu Habibu, a councillor representing Jangebe Ward.

Another victim, Samaila Ladan, a registration officer with the Hajj Affairs Unit, was shot in the right hand. The driver, Lawali Hakimi, was shot dead at the scene.
