A fresh legal battle has emerged against the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), with a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the party.

Ahidjo Karlahi, the protem Director of the Organisation for All Democratic Alliance (ADA), is the plaintiff in the matter. The suit, assigned to Justice Mohammed Umar, argues that the NDC did not meet the constitutional and legal requirements for registration as a political party.

According to the court documents, the NDC allegedly failed to follow proper procedures under Sections 221 to 225A of the 1999 Constitution and Sections 75 and 79 of the Electoral Act, 2022.

Karlahi claims the NDC was not listed among the prequalified associations for the 2025 political party registration exercise. He also alleges the party did not complete necessary administrative steps, including paying required fees and accessing INEC’s registration portal.

The plaintiff is asking the court to declare the NDC’s registration unconstitutional and direct INEC to stop recognising it as a political party.

Speaking on the matter, Karlahi insisted the suit is not politically motivated but aimed at protecting the integrity of the electoral process. He urged citizens to support the legal process.
