President Tinubu Grants Customs CG Adeniyi Six-Month Tenure Extension

President Bola Tinubu has approved a six-month extension for Adewale Adeniyi as the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). Adeniyi will now remain in office until February 2027.

Adeniyi has received two tenure extensions in total from President Tinubu, which has drawn reactions from Nigerians questioning whether there is no other customs officer capable of that position. First, he received a tenure extension that was set to expire on August 1, 2026. This current one is another six-month tenure extension (his second), now expiring in February 2027.

This is the second time Adeniyi has received a tenure extension.

During the extended period, Adeniyi is expected to push forward the implementation of the National Single Window system and manage the service’s succession plan. He will also oversee the promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller and enforce the retirement of officers who have reached age 60 or completed 35 years of service.

Adeniyi began his career with the Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University and has risen through the ranks since the late 1980s.
