The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering a major review of its election technology systems, along with a mock presidential election, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan shared these plans during a meeting with the British High Commissioner. He acknowledged that issues with technology reliability during the 2023 elections need to be addressed. While these initiatives were not part of the original budget, Amupitan stressed they are important for improving the credibility of future elections.

INEC is also focused on making sure its technology works as expected. This includes continued use of systems like the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV). The Commission is also reviewing its cyber-security measures.

The goal, according to INEC, is to boost public confidence in the electoral process. The Commission insists that credible elections require cooperation from all stakeholders — including political parties, security agencies, and citizens.
