Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu has made history as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) in its 55-year existence. Her investiture, which drew prominent figures from across the insurance industry and government, marks a significant milestone for gender representation in the sector.

Nwachukwu, who currently serves as the Managing Director of Rex Insurance, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Before her current position, she held executive roles in several insurance companies, building a reputation that made her appointment widely celebrated across the industry.

At the heart of her agenda for the association is what she calls the “A.C.E Agenda” — a plan focused on enhancing public awareness about insurance, building industry capacity, and enforcing regulatory compliance. These three pillars aim to address long-standing challenges that have held back the growth of Nigeria’s insurance sector.

The Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, who was present at the event, spoke about the importance of trust, compliance, and innovation in transforming the industry. He expressed strong confidence in Nwachukwu’s leadership and her plans for the association.

His remarks also touched on ongoing reforms reshaping the sector, including the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA 2025) and the approaching recapitalisation deadline — both developments that will define the future of insurance in Nigeria.
