Ahead of the governorship election in Osun State scheduled for August 15, 2026, sensitive election materials have arrived in Osogbo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plans to use over 30,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as ad-hoc personnel for the exercise.

Security Deployment

Security arrangements include the deployment of 25,310 personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Voter Data

INEC reports that 2,339,233 voters are registered for the election. However, data on Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection is currently unavailable due to a recent extension of the PVC collection exercise.

Materials Security and Logistics

The sensitive materials, including ballot papers, are being kept secure at the Central Bank of Nigeria. Logistics arrangements have been put in place to ensure timely distribution of the materials to polling units shortly before election day.

Top Candidates

Prominent candidates in the race include the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, as well as challengers Bola Oyebamiji and Najeem Salam.

The NSCDC has called on its personnel to maintain professionalism, urging them to stay neutral and treat everyone with respect during the election period.
