The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is pushing forward with its digital transformation, aiming to tackle revenue leaks and procedural abuse while facing growing public scrutiny.

The move comes in response to an investigative report on vehicle valuation and enforcement. Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada stressed that the new digital VIN-Valuation system is working well, cutting back on human discretion in how vehicles are assessed.

Beyond that, the agency pointed to its post-clearance audit program as a key tool for holding itself accountable — a step that has helped push revenue collection at major ports to record highs.

On staffing, the NCS defended its recruitment and promotion processes as open and merit-based, saying they follow legal guidelines. The Service also reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing federal rules at the borders and welcomed independent scrutiny, making clear it’s taking a proactive stand against corruption.

According to the NCS, it operates under the oversight of several government bodies and enforces strict disciplinary measures against unethical conduct.
