APC Campaign Council Denies Plot to Kill Atiku
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has dismissed claims that there is a plot to assassinate or intimidate African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
The allegations were made by Timi Frank, a former APC deputy national publicity secretary, who called for diplomatic intervention and an independent investigation in an open letter to US President Donald Trump and other international leaders.
APC-PCC spokesperson Dele Alake said the claims are false. He urged Frank to take any evidence to the security agencies, adding that credible threats should be investigated regardless of a person’s political affiliation.
The council also denied that Atiku’s security had been withdrawn. It said police and Department of State Services personnel protect him, and that President Bola Tinubu had directed increased protection for presidential and other candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Frank said he feared the EFCC could be used to bring proceedings that would lead to Atiku’s arrest and prolonged detention during the campaign. He stressed that his concern was potential political persecution, not exemption from the law.
The APC-PCC described the claims as politically motivated and called on candidates, parties and supporters to make factual, responsible statements and keep political competition peaceful, lawful and focused on issues rather than personal attacks or unsupported allegations.
