NSC Orders Suspension of New Shipping Charge Hike
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has directed all shipping lines and their agencies to suspend the implementation of recently approved tariff increases.
According to the Council, the decision follows ongoing engagements with key stakeholders and concerns raised about the timing, structure, and potential impact of the new charges on port users and the broader logistics value chain.
To safeguard fair competition, transparency, and sectoral stability, the NSC said all affected operators must revert to and apply strictly the tariff regime that was in force immediately before the proposed increases.
The Council warned that any deviation from the directive will be treated as a breach of regulatory compliance and may attract sanctions under existing laws and regulations.
The NSC added that it will issue a definitive position after completing stakeholder consultations and internal regulatory reviews.
