The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has reported a major boost in revenue collection. Between March and May 2026, the command generated nearly ₦9.8 billion — a 448% increase compared to the same period last year.

Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila attributed the growth to better compliance from traders and the effective use of the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System.

In the same period, the command intercepted several illegal items, including 800 parcels of cannabis sativa and unregistered pharmaceutical products. The seized goods have a total Duty Paid Value of over ₦500 million.

Kaila said the command remains committed to fighting smuggling and protecting public health and local industries. He noted that six suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, but have been released on bail.

He warned smugglers that the command will continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and work with other agencies to tackle trans-border crimes.
