A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, narrowly escaped a mob attack on Friday at the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State.

Igbokwe shared the incident in a video on his Facebook page on Saturday. He said he had gone to the market to buy spare parts for his car when some youths recognised him and began to gather angrily.

According to him, as the crowd moved closer to his vehicle, he took cover in a friend’s shop. The market leadership later intervened and helped him escape safely.

“I got the parts and went to my vehicle to fix it. Before I knew it, the Ladipo boys started gathering. They were shouting, ‘This is Igbokwe, so you can come to this market?'” He recounted.

After the incident, Igbokwe took to social media to clear the air, stating that contrary to rumours, he was not harmed, but they shouted at me and I became afraid. “I came to Facebook this morning and saw a post that Joe Igbokwe was beaten. I was not beaten. This is me,” he said.

He also expressed concerns over the growing hostility, adding that such behaviour would not be tolerated in Lagos, you cant bully me, in Neewi and come bully me in Lagos state too. “There are things you cannot do here. You can go to the Southeast and be doing all the rubbish you have been doing there, but not in Lagos,” he said.
