FIFA World Cup; Davido Uses World Cup Stage to Call for Release of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren

Nigerian music star Davido used his performance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to draw international attention to the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State.

The singer wore a custom-made jacket bearing the names of 39 abducted children and their seven teachers. On the back of the jacket, he had the words “Bring Them Home” boldly printed.

During his performance of the hit song “Fall,” Davido made sure to show off the jacket throughout, using the global platform to highlight the plight of the captives from Oriire Local Government Area.

This is not the first time Davido has spoken out about the abduction. He had earlier called on authorities to ensure the safe rescue of the victims without further delay, stating that the current wave of insecurity must not be allowed to continue.

In related news, fellow Nigerian artist Burna Boy is set to perform at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Mexico City alongside Shakira. The two will perform “Dia Dia,” the official 2026 World Cup song. Another Nigerian star, Rema, will also perform at the US opening ceremony in Los Angeles alongside Lisa and other international pop stars.
