Tomorrow, Saturday, September 19, 2026, the heart of Surulere, Lagos, will beat with pride as the Imo State Towns Development Association Lagos (ISTDAL) hosts a grand celebration marking its 40th anniversary. Taking place at the National Stadium, this landmark event, “Imo at 40,” is a testament to four decades of unwavering commitment to community development, cultural preservation, and national unity.

ISTDAL, the apex socio-cultural organisation for all Imo indigenes in Lagos, has a rich history of fostering solidarity and driving progress. This anniversary is a momentous occasion to reflect on its achievements and honour those who have significantly contributed to the association’s success and the broader development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

Among the many distinguished guests and awardees, two individuals stand out for their exceptional service and leadership. Their recognition at “Imo at 40” is a highlight of the celebration.

Spotlight on Excellence: Our Outstanding Awardees

Distinguished Senator Anthony Adefuye

Senator Anthony Adefuye is a colossus in the Nigerian political landscape. A man of profound wisdom and unwavering dedication, he has spent decades working tirelessly for the people. Beyond his official political roles, Senator Adefuye is revered as a teacher, mentor, and a father figure to many. His humility, courage, and generosity have inspired generations of leaders.

As a patron of numerous charitable and professional organizations, Senator Adefuye has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting initiatives that empower communities. ISTDAL is proud to honor him for his legendary service and his enduring role as a beacon of wisdom and support. His presence at “Imo at 40” adds prestige to the occasion, and his life of service is a powerful example for all.

His Excellency, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State

Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the 15th Deputy Governor of Lagos State, is a brilliant engineer, technocrat, and administrator. He is a driving force behind the technological modernization of Lagos State. His extensive background in the private sector, including roles at Oando Plc and major international firms, has equipped him with a unique blend of technical expertise and strategic vision.

Within the Lagos State government, Dr. Hamzat has championed the automation of processes, improving efficiency and public service delivery. His contributions to key infrastructure projects, such as the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge, have had a transformative impact. Respected for his analytical approach and unwavering loyalty, he has proven to be a trusted ally in making Lagos a centre of excellence. We are honoured to recognise his exceptional contributions to governance and development. It is particularly poetic that this celebration takes place on his birthday, further cementing the shared joy and celebration.
