Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been honored as The Sun Newspaper’s ‘Governor of the Year 2024’ in recognition of his outstanding leadership and significant contributions to the governance of Anambra State.

This accolade highlights his impressive achievements in infrastructure and transformative initiatives that have propelled the state forward.

The award ceremony took place on March 1, 2025, at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event drew a large crowd, including prominent government officials, senators, and dignitaries from various sectors of the Nigerian economy, all of whom praised Governor Soludo for his extensive projects across key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, human capacity development, economic growth, and security—all accomplished within a relatively short timeframe.

During the presentation, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Biance Ojukwu, alongside the publisher of The Sun Newspaper, Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, commended Governor Soludo for his visionary leadership.

They emphasized his commitment to elevating Anambra State into a thriving hub for economic and business activities. and the recent clean up going on in Anambra state.  Mrs. Ojukwu noted that Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has redefined governance through various initiatives aimed at making Anambra a place where residents can live, invest, learn, work, and enjoy life.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude to The Sun Publishing Limited for the recognition, attributing the award to the collaborative efforts of his cabinet, the solution team, and the people of Anambra. “I dedicate this award to the hardworking citizens of Anambra State—the keke drivers, artisans, and market traders who strive daily to make our state great,” he stated.

This latest recognition follows Governor Soludo’s recent accolade as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery in the Southeast and Nigeria, awarded by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF.

Additionally, Governor Soludo’s innovative approach has led Anambra State to achieve fourth place in BudgIT’s State of States 2024 Report, which evaluates fiscal performance and sustainability. This ranking underscores Anambra’s remarkable achievements in both fiscal and healthcare metrics, particularly as many states face challenges in these areas. It reflects Soludo’s effective model of fiscal responsibility, strong leadership, and adept economic management.
