On Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, reaffirmed his ambition to contest Nigeria’s top office once more—this time in 2027.

When asked about his future political plans, Obi confidently stated, “I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.” His words echo his firm belief in his capability to lead the nation.

The former Anambra State governor also addressed speculations about his possible role in the upcoming 2023 elections, notably whether he would consider becoming the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Obi dismissed such notions, clarifying, “Nobody has discussed that with me. This is not in play; people assume so many things. Nobody has ever talked to me about being A or B, or C.”

While he maintains his active membership in the Labour Party, Obi is also a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which is championed by the opposition in their bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is aiming for re-election in 2027.

Expressing his commitment to Nigeria’s future, Obi shared, “I am part of the coalition that aims to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country.”

As Nigeria looks ahead to the 2027 elections, Peter Obi’s determination and vision continue to position him as a significant voice in the nation’s political landscape.
