Justice Chidiebere Mark, better known as Justice Crack, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja. The social media activist was arrested in late April after posting videos that criticised how frontline soldiers are being treated by the authorities.

The court set bail at ₦5 million. The conditions require one surety — someone who must be a Level 17 civil servant and also own property in Abuja.

Justice Crack is facing cybercrime-related charges, including spreading false information and incitement. These charges were filed after security operatives arrested him over his viral videos about the welfare of soldiers fighting insecurity in the country.

His supporters insist he is not a criminal but is being persecuted simply for speaking out about issues affecting military personnel.

During the hearing today, there was drama even before the hearing began. Activist Omoyele Sowore and several supporters confronted security operatives outside the courtroom. Sowore accused security officials of blocking members of the public and journalists from entering. He also alleged that a lawyer was assaulted during the incident.

The confrontation sparked heated conversations online about freedom of expression in Nigeria, judicial transparency, and the constitutional right of the public to access court proceedings.

Supporters of Justice Crack continue to call for his full release. They insist his activism was never about anything other than drawing attention to the welfare and treatment of soldiers who are risking their lives to fight insecurity across the country.

For now, the struggle continues.
