Repentant Bandits Kill Grandson Of District Head, Abduct Nine Others In Kaduna Highway, Farm Attacks*

A group of bandits who were said to have “repented” have reportedly killed a farmer they abducted in Kaduna State, raising serious questions about the government’s peace efforts with armed groups.

The victim, Mallam Umaru Ibrahim, was kidnapped on Monday, June 22, while working on his farm in Kidandan, a community in Giwa Local Government Area that borders Birnin Gwari.

His body was recovered on Wednesday morning from a bush called Sidi and was buried by his family shortly after.

Muhammadu Sani, a relative of the deceased, said Ibrahim was not alone — he was taken alongside other farmers before being killed by the captors.

Sani also claimed that local officials and traditional rulers are pressuring residents to stop reporting killings and kidnappings on social media.

“We cannot keep quiet while they do nothing, and we are being killed and kidnapped daily by these terrorists, whom they claim have repented. Where is the repentance in all these atrocities?” Sani asked.

He named a man called Abba Danlami as a possible witness, saying Danlami was also kidnapped by the same group but managed to escape and knows the full details of what happened.

The killing has left residents in the Giwa–Birnin Gwari area more fearful, even as authorities insist that dialogue and reconciliation with armed groups are working.
